This book is a collection of historical anecdotes that got left out of the books because they're dirty, cruel, bizarre, or otherwise don't fit in with the accepted version of what happened. An Underground Education is fascinating and highly entertaining, although it's difficult to tell how good Zacks' scholarship is (presumably one could verify his information, since he lists sources).
