Picture Raymond Carver stories with more of an emphasis on sex, and you'll have a pretty good idea of what this book is like. They are beautifully written but depressing; the characters are all wrapped up in their problems and never seem to see the bigger picture. I'll definitely be reading Gaitskill's other books; I hope they're as good as this one.
