This is a short, funny book about a man who can only react to events in terms of things he's seen on television. He is a blank slate, and everyone sees in him what they want to see. Being There can be read on several levels; it's an ironic commentary on modern life and the influence of television, and also an existentialist novel about Chance's quest for identity. Recommended. |
