David Boring

[cover]

by Daniel Clowes

isbn: 0375406921
subject: Fiction and Literature, Graphic Novels
finished: 11/12/2000

David Boring is a surreal graphic novel about a young security guard with an obsessive personality. He becomes involved with a woman who is bad news, spends time with his strange and screwed-up family, gets shot in the head twice, and doesn't care much that everyone is likely to soon perish in a holocaust. Although most of the panels are in black and white, the few comic book pages David has that were drawn by his missing father are in color; he keeps trying to figure out what they mean, but he's unable to. This novel has the feel of a nightmare; I kept expecting David to wake up. Clowes' art and dialogue are great; this is a good, but depressing, graphic novel.
