book 3 of Sandman by Neil Gaiman
isbn: 156389016X
This trade paperback collects four one-shot Sandman issues. Morpheus is present, but peripheral, in each of them. Calliope describes the imprisonment of this muse by two twentieth-century writers. A Dream of a Thousand Cats is a fun story about using dreams to change the world -- kind of like LeGuin's Lathe of Heaven. A Midsummer Night's Dream, drawn by Charles Vess, is a wonderful story about why Shakespeare actually wrote this play. Facade is a somewhat uninspired tale about a neglected DC character that I'd never heard of. Definitely read this if you're a Sandman fan -- otherwise, start at the beginning. |
