Around ten years ago, when I was in high school, I read Gleick's Chaos, which was influential on my thinking. So it was fun to read The Dreams of Reason, another one of the early popular accounts of complexity. More interesting, however, was the second part of the book, which gets into the philosophy of science. Pagels is intelligent and widely read, and this is a good book. I especially liked the Hunter S. Thompson cameo near the beginning. |
