Banks is usually hit or miss for me, but I was pretty ambivalent about this one. Not nearly as strong as Use of Weapons but better than Consider Phlebas, this Culture novel has all of the cool ship names and great battle scenes that make them fun to read. However, I never cared about any of the characters enough to get into the book. Read The Wasp Factory instead.
