The Fellowship of the Ring begins the story of Frodo's quest to destroy the One Ring, the source of the dark lord Sauron's power. The things that I didn't like the first time I read The Lord of the Rings -- the amazing detail and historical background -- are the things that make it worth rereading. Although I can't enjoy it as much as I did when I was younger, this is top-notch fantasy. Tolkien created a detailed and internally consistent world that is a wonderful place to spend a few weeks of reading time. Highly recommended.
