Although the third installment of Maupin's San Francisco soap opera starts out slow, I was hooked by about halfway through. In this one, DeDe is back in town after escaping from Jonestown, Prue Giroux has a mysterious new lover, AIDS hasn't quite hit SF yet, and a reporter ends up as a prisoner in the basement of 28 Barbary lane. I don't think there's much to say except that people who enjoyed the previous Tales books will most likely enjoy this one also.
