Billy, the narrator, is a self-loathing and self-destructive rock has-been who gets paid to go on a road trip with a former girlfriend, and to write a book about it. He gets into one scrape after another, managing to escape from them without causing too much damage until the painful finale. I would have enjoyed Go Now, but the prose often comes across as pretentious and stilted.
