book 5 of The Dune Series
isbn: 0441328008
In the entire Dune universe, I don't think there's a single character that I'd like to sit down and have a beer with. This is not a problem in itself, but I have to wonder why they're all so pretentious. Anyway, this book takes place 1500 years after the death of Leto II and is about the power struggle between the Bene Gesserit, the Tleilaxu, the priests of Rakis, and people of the scattering. In the earlier Dune books, the intrigue and plotting seems to have a goal and the plot moves in a definite direction; Heretics of Dune is more philosophical and less direct -- to a fault, unfortunately. This is good SF, and an entertaining book, but it leaves too many loose ends; presumably they will be tied up in Chapterhouse: Dune. |
