I really admire Baker for writing this -- an entire book that takes place during an escalator ride. I also identify with the narrator's tendency to micro-analyze things. Many of his observations were the kind of thing I'd notice, but forget soon afterward -- it was great seeing them in print. However, I also wanted to shake him by the neck and yell: "get on with your life, you loser!"
