This book can be described pretty completely by saying what's good and bad about it. What's good is that it's a useful, reasonably comprehensive guide to digital music for PC users, including hardware and software for recording, encoding, and playing music, music formats and their relative merits, and legal issues. There are a number of bad things about it: it tends to be too superficial, it mostly addresses only the needs of Windows users, and it contains lots of URLs and information about specific hardware and software that will become obsolete about 15 minutes after the book hits the shelves. I would recommend this book to digital music beginners who are looking for a gentle introduction to the topic. |
