The characters in these stories make Raymond Carver's characters seem like people from a feel-good movie -- they're uniformly dislikable and nasty. The stories are interesting character studies, and are generally funny in a very dark way. This book held my interest throughout, but it wasn't on a par with some of the other collections I've read recently, like Thirst and Sixty Stories. |
