While not exactly great literature, Ringworld is certainly great SF. The sequel, unfortunately, is not. It suffers from inconsistency with the other "known space" work and too many scenes that do not advance the plot. Also, what is up with the ongoing obsession with inter-species sex? This material grates on the reader like the last chapter of a Piers Anthony book. Not recommended.
