The world that Rogue Moon was written in has changed so much that it was difficult for me to appreciate it. The treatment of science is strongly influenced by the Manhattan Project, and feels dated. The characters (especially the women) are stereotypes. That said, this book is very good science fiction, and I enjoyed parts of it a lot. The end of the book is well done: Budrys resists explaining the alien artifact, and instead concentrates on his characters. |
