Semiology of Graphics

by Jacques Bertin

isbn: 0299090604
subject: General Science, Nonfiction, Design
finished: Spring 1997

I didn't read this entire book -- it was too dense. It's pretty amazing: 400 pages about what graphics (graphs, not computer graphics) mean. About half of the pages are covered with very complex graphics -- Semiology of Graphics must have been a nightmare to produce. If you ever have to convey information graphically, it's worth skimming this book.
