book 2 of The Black Company by Glen Cook
isbn: 0812508424
In the second Black Company book, the Company finds itself in Juniper: a bleak, desperate city on the icy edge of the Empire. Their job is to cope with a bizarre black tower near Juniper that lately has been growing at an alarming rate. The story centers around Croaker and his companions, and also on Marron Shed, a cowardly barkeeper who is perpetually on the edge of financial ruin. Cook departs slightly from the first-person limited point of view that worked so well in the first book. Still, this one is as good as its predecessor or better -- it's no follow-on, but rather a continuation of a well-designed world and storyline. |
