The Shockwave Rider

[cover]

by John Brunner

isbn: 0345324315
subject: Fiction and Literature, SF
finished: Summer 1997

Reading this book made me wonder what the cyberpunk writers of the mid '80s thought they were doing that was new. The Shockwave Rider has a dystopian future, a worldwide network, genetically engineered humans, and a band of information-warrior good guys who make a stand against the government. Unfortunately, most of the characters seem stereotypical; I'm not sure if this is because I've read a lot of books that were influenced by this one, or because it just wasn't very well written.
