I've owned a copy since I was twelve and I've started it many times, but I think that this is the first time that I actually finished The Silmarillion. It's the bible for Middle Earth, and the source of the historical depth that is part of the reason that The Lord of the Rings is so good. Although it's compelling in places, most of the book is dry, and it lacks a historical depth of its own. I enjoyed it, but The Silmarillion is most likely only of interest to serious Tolkien fans. |
