by Stephen King
This is the kind of book that Stephen King must have really enjoyed writing -- he gets to kill off most of the world with a plague, and then creates a showdown between good and evil in the wreckage. The version of The Stand that I just read was the "uncut" edition, and as you might expect, it contained a lot of material that should have been cut. Still, anti-Stephen-King snobbery aside, I think this is a good book, and is often an enjoyable and gripping read.
