In the last year or so, Richard Powers has become one of my favorite authors -- Three Farmers is his impressive first novel. There are several plot threads tied together loosely by a WWI-era photograph of three farmers on their way to a dance. The book is about history, biography, and the things that make the 20th century different from its predecessors. It's a good read, and a history lesson too.
