Ged, the hero of A Wizard of Earthsea, is a minor character in the sequel. The Tombs of Atuan is also a book about coming of age, this time about a young priestess of a group of neglected gods. Again, Le Guin has written an intelligent fantasy novel with strong characters and interesting situations. The tone is quite different from the first book; the world she constructs here feels prosaic and solid, rather than mystical and surreal.
