Underground

This is a great book about a subject that at first glance seems uninteresting: the underground structures that support buildings and people in a city, and their construction. These include subways, various kinds of foundations, and the sewer, water, gas, and electrical systems. The drawings are wonderful -- highly detailed pictures of the various systems, in-place, as if the earth were transparent. The best ones have the point of view below ground, as if the observer were standing on bedrock. Recommended.
