Watchmen is the best of the revisionist superhero comics of the 80s. Moore writes an excellent story that works at several levels and (as he demonstrated in Miracleman) he's gifted at twisting a familiar subject and forcing us to look at in a new way. I wish people wouldn't infer from the extremely low average quality of comics that real literature cannot be done in this medium.
