Zot, Vol. 1

[cover]

by Scott McCloud

isbn: 0878165258
subject: Fiction and Literature, Graphic Novels
finished: 1/13/1999

This book collects the first ten issues of Zot, McCloud's offbeat superhero comic from the early 80s. The main characters are (of course) Zot, a fallible young hero from an alternate Earth, and Jenny, a sweet but lonely teenager from our Earth who finds her life becoming a lot more exciting when she's stranded in Zot's universe. Together with a group of friends, Zot and Jenny battle bizarre villains such as Dekko and 9-Jack-9.

Zot is better in every respect than the average superhero comic, but it's not nearly as good as either McCloud's later work, Understanding Comics, or more recent takes on the superhero by writers like Neil Gaiman, Alan Moore, Frank Miller, and Grant Morrison.
